Contract Awarded for Global Nuclear Energy Partnership Technology Demonstration Environmental Impact Statement Support

WASHINGTON, DC – Assistant Secretary of Energy Dennis Spurgeon today announced that Tetratech, Inc., a Falls Church, Virginia company, has been selected by the Department of Energy to provide technical support for preparing and issuing the Environmental Impact Statement for the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership Technology Demonstration Program. The initial value of the contract is estimated at $3.3 million.

“With this award today, the department will proceed with evaluating candidate sites and technologies for GNEP advanced technology demonstrations,” Assistant Secretary Spurgeon said. “These analyses are an important part of determining where the demonstration facilities will be located and one of the key ways in which the department obtains input from the public on its proposals.”

In March 2006, the department initiated the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) activities with the issuance of an Advance Notice of Intent to prepare an EIS. The department anticipates issuing a Notice of Intent in summer 2006 and beginning scoping meetings later in the year. Additional information on the NEPA process may be found on the Department’s web site, www.energy.gov.
