The Office of Nuclear Energy, Office of Advanced Reactor Concepts will be conducting a 2-day workshop on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) on June 29-30, 2010. This workshop will immediately follow the Platts SMR Conference that will be held on June 28 and 29, 2010. The DOE Workshop will consist of two components:

1) An open meeting on June 29, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm, to inform stakeholders on the status of planning for a new multi-year SMR program, which is expected to begin in FY11 and will include a cost-shared program element supporting design certifications for up to 2 light water reactor based SMR designs and a research and development program (R&D) element that will be needed to develop and demonstrate a range of advanced SMR designs.

2) A technical working group session on June 30. This component is not an open session but by invitation. The focus of this session is to bring together subject matter experts and other key individuals to discuss and recommend specific technology R&D, regulatory support, and codes and standards development activities needed to support both near-term and advanced SMR designs.
